What you will do:
We’re looking for an experienced freelance UI/UX Designer to collaborate with Studio Graphene on a project-by-project basis. You’ll work remotely and independently, delivering defined outputs that enhance usability, accessibility and visual impact across multiple digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Discovery & Research
- Participate in user research and discovery workshops with Product Managers, stakeholders and clients to identify user needs, business goals and product opportunities.
- Synthesise research findings into actionable insights, personas and problem statements that inform the design direction.
- Contribute to defining success metrics and validating design assumptions through user testing and feedback.
- Information Architecture & Strategy
- Collaborate with PMs and the wider team to define the product’s information architecture and overall structure.
- Develop comprehensive user flows, task flows and navigation models to ensure intuitive and scalable experiences.
- Facilitate discussions around hierarchy, accessibility and content strategy.
- Wireframing & Interaction Design
- Translate research and flows into clear, functional wireframes that capture core interactions and user journeys.
- Iterate on wireframes based on feedback from stakeholders and usability testing.
- Document interaction patterns and rationale for key design decisions.
- Visual Design & Look & Feel Exploration
- Explore and define visual directions (e.g., colour palettes, typography, imagery, iconography) aligned with the brand identity and project goals.
- Create visual mockups and high-fidelity prototypes to communicate look and feel and demonstrate interactivity.
- Contribute to evolving the design language and ensuring accessibility standards are met.
- Design System & UI Production
- Create and maintain scalable design components and documentation within the design system to ensure visual and functional consistency.
- Adapt and expand screen designs for various breakpoints and states (empty, loading, error, success).
- Deliver production-ready UI assets and specifications to developers, ensuring smooth handover and implementation.
- Collaboration & Iteration
- Collaborate with developers as needed to ensure design deliverables are implemented correctly
- Gather feedback from users, stakeholders and data insights to iterate and refine the product experience.
- May provide feedback on existing processes where relevant to the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Graphic Design, Interaction Design or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrable experience designing user interfaces and experiences for web and mobile applications.
- Strong portfolio showcasing your design process, problem-solving approach and final outcomes.
- Proficiency with Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Solid understanding of UX principles, usability, accessibility and responsive design across breakpoints and devices.
- Strong sense of visual design, typography and branding, with the ability to apply and evolve brand guidelines consistently.
- Organised, self-directed and efficient, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams and remote stakeholders.

Engagement Details:
- Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor (non-employment basis)
- Location: Remote (open to candidates worldwide)
- Compensation: Competitive deliverable-based or hourly rate (to be agreed individually)
- Contract: Short-term or ongoing, project-based engagements depending on client needs. This engagement is offered on an independent contractor basis. The individual will not be considered an employee of Studio Graphene and will be responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and equipment.
