Job Description

We're looking for a Lead Artist to join the team for a 6 month fixed term. Collaborating closely with the Art Director, Creative Leads, and other artists to develop and deliver high-quality design and creative solutions.

The role focuses on generating original 2D and 3D design work, solving complex visual challenges, and contributing to the creative direction of our project.

This role has responsibility to:

  • Contribute to the creative vision by interpreting briefs, producing original 2D/3D artwork, solving design challenges, and aligning with Art Directors and Project Leads.
  • Provide creative leadership and feedback, including writing briefs for other artists, offering constructive art direction, and ensuring Wētā’s quality standards are met.

  • Collaborate across teams and disciplines, working closely with peers, other departments, and external partners to ensure designs translate effectively into production.

  • Maintain high artistic standards through advanced skills in drawing, rendering, composition, and presentation, producing clear and impactful design outputs.

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • Advanced art, design and research skills
  • 2D & 3D design skills, with the ability to design and model in programmes like Blender, Zbrush, Rhino, 3DS or Maya
  • Familiarity with real-time rendering software eg Unreal Engine
  • Excellence in Photoshop
  • Ideally familiar with Illustrator, InDesign and Premier Pro
