JOB SUMMARY

The Part-time Graphics Install Assistant will be responsible for coordinating and installing graphics, signage, and displays throughout the Zoo. This role ensures graphics are installed accurately, safely, and on schedule, while maintaining the visual quality and integrity of the Zoo. The position requires basic hands-on experience with graphic installation tools and materials, including preparing surfaces, applying vinyl graphics, measuring spaces, and assisting with mounting signage and displays. The Part-time Graphics Install Assistant works closely with internal teams to support installations in both indoor and outdoor areas of the Zoo. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leverage Dallas Zoo brand standards to install and maintain animal ID graphics and informational / educational signage that support the Zoo’s mission and vision.  
  • Ensures that existing graphics, directionals, banners and other graphic elements are maintained in a manner consistent with Dallas Zoo standards for guest experience. 
  • Serve as a lead while working with internal signage team members to determine specs, materials, logistics, installation needs, etc. 
  • Inspect graphics across the Zoo for wear, damage, or fading.
  • Replace or repair signage and graphics as needed.
  • Measure surfaces and prepare installation areas. Trim, mount, and prepare graphic materials prior to installation.
  • Install vinyl graphics, wall murals, exhibit panels, window graphics, banners, and directional signage.
  • Work closely with Project Management and Graphic Design teams to ensure information, direction, specs, timelines, etc. are clearly outlined at the start of a project, that installation deadlines are met. 
  • Collaborate with broader Project Management team to prioritize creative installation requests.
  • Attend press checks and / or review proofs to ensure quality control for all Zoo signage and materials. 
  • Communicate with print vendors or production teams regarding specifications and delivery timelines.
  • Use ladders, lifts, and installation tools safely.
  • Maintain organizational system for filing all design assets on the company server.
  • Provide regular reports on project status including scope, schedule and budget to Director of Strategic Planning and Creative Director 
  • Maintains graphics records, archival database of existing graphics and digital storage of assets.
  • Coordinates installation needs with Project Manager and Graphic Design team
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and sound decision-making.
  • Coordinate staff and outside contractors to fabricate graphics, signs, and interpretive materials for Dallas Zoo when needed
  • Ensure that a professional work environment is maintained during construction projects with minimum negative impact to guests, staff or animals
  • Performs other duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education and/or training in graphic design, print production, visual communications, or a related field
  • Experience installing vinyl graphics, signage, or environmental graphics
  • Basic knowledge of measurement, layout and mounting techniques 
  • Ability to use tools such as measuring tape, ladders, cutting tools, squeegees for vinyl application, etc. 
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with creative teams, clients, and production vendors to manage projects. 
  • Familiarity with graphic production processes.
  • Experience with large-format printing and installation a plus.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of print, interactive, signage, and photo/video asset design and production best practices. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills a must.
  • Must understand the value and need for meeting deadlines and communicating effectively about doing so.
  • Able to work calmly under pressure, juggle multiple tasks & projects simultaneously and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
  • High degree of adaptability. Must be able to shift priorities seamlessly while remaining efficient and effective.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Periodically works irregular hours, including some nights, holidays and weekends, as needed. 
  • Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work. This will involve some lifting, carrying, moving, pushing, and/or pulling of objects/materials of medium weight (25-50 pounds). Climbing on ladders or over obstacles will be required. Tasks may also involve significant periods of standing or walking outside during events and photo shoots, as well as during event set-up or break-down times. 
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
