Photo Editor, Editorial
OVERVIEW
Morning Brew is looking for a Photo Editor, Editorial to help shape how our stories look and feel across all publications, from our daily consumer newsletters to our professional B2B stories.
This role lives at the intersection of journalism, design, and visual storytelling. You’ll source and edit photography that captures attention, provides context, and brings clarity to complex ideas. You’ll collaborate with editors and writers to make smart, creative image choices, and with designers to ensure everything that goes out the door meets our visual standards.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving newsroom, has a sharp eye for detail, and knows how to balance creative taste with efficiency.
Morning Brew is based in New York City but this role is remote-friendly for all candidates.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Editorial Production
- Source, crop, and color-correct photos for Morning Brew Inc.’s consumer and professional publications.
- Choose visuals that feel fresh, on-brand, and aligned with our editorial voice.
- Work with editors and writers to understand story context and find the right image approach, even when the solution isn’t obvious.
- Maintain and update our photo guidelines around usage rights, procurement, and copyright.
- Track and manage Getty downloads and provide oversight on credit use.
Creative Collaboration
- Partner with designers to develop and apply consistent photo treatments and templates.
- Provide creative direction to photographers on commissioned shoots, ensuring imagery reflects our standards and storytelling goals.
- Support longer-lead features that require a conceptual or narrative visual approach.
- Confidently work with pre-designed layouts or build simple collages and composites as needed.
Photo Commissioning & Workflow
- Manage and expand our network of freelance editorial photographers.
- Commission and coordinate photoshoots, from scouting and scheduling to managing contracts and invoices.
- Support editorial teams with photo budgets and production logistics.
- Keep projects on track using Monday.com and Notion, and help improve how we produce and share visuals across teams.
- Pitch in on branded content shoots when extra coordination support is needed
Systems & Archive Management
- Keep our photo archive organized, searchable, and compliant with licensing standards.
- Source imagery from stock sites and open-source collections, handling permissions and credits with care.
- Apply systems thinking to make our photo workflows faster, smarter, and more consistent.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 3-5 years of experience in photo editing, visual production, or a related role in media or creative industries.
- Fluency in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom (bonus if you’re familiar with Figma).
- Strong visual judgment and an eye for photography, storytelling, and composition.
- Comfort juggling high-volume, quick-turn photo work alongside longer-lead editorial projects.
- Knowledge of licensing, copyright, and best practices for sourcing and crediting images.
- Experience using tools like Monday.com, Notion, and Slack to keep things organized.
- A collaborative, communicative work style: you’re the kind of teammate who makes things run smoother.
- Curiosity about how visuals support storytelling in business, tech, and culture.
BONUS POINTS
- Experience commissioning editorial portraits or reportage photography.
- Familiarity with DAM (digital asset management) systems and metadata best practices.
- A proactive mindset, someone who’s excited to build and refine visual systems that scale with our newsroom.
COMPENSATION
$80,000-$85,000 *Final offers for this job will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided, commensurate with experience. Total offer package to include benefits highlighted under our perks section below.
