About the Role
We are seeking a highly strategic, systems-oriented Principal Product Designer to lead the design of a unified global experience that serves as the foundation for multiple mission-critical applications.
This is not a feature design role. This is a platform design leadership role.
You will own the design of the global application shell, navigation system, way-finding experience, and cross-application UX standards that enable independent product teams to operate within a single, coherent digital environment. You will define how users discover, enter, orient within, and move across applications — without re-learning core behaviors.
You will work directly with executive product leadership and engineering to translate enterprise platform strategy into durable user experience standards that scale.
What You’ll Own
You will serve as the principal designer for the Global Experience Platform, including:
- Way-finding and the public-to-authenticated “front door” experience
- Information architecture across the portal
- Global navigation systems and orientation patterns
- Cross-application UX contracts and interaction standards
- Workflow context presentation patterns (how state, progress, and status are surfaced consistently)
- Global UX behavior standards across applications
- Adoption materials and onboarding guidance for product teams integrating into the platform
You will define how identity context, workflow context, and application context are experienced inside the unified interface.
You will not design individual program workflows or feature-level interactions within application teams. You will define the patterns those teams build within.
What You’ll Do
Global Experience Strategy
- Translate enterprise platform strategy into scalable UX systems
- Define and evolve the portal’s information architecture
- Establish global navigation principles that support multi-application ecosystems
- Design durable patterns that prevent fragmentation while preserving team autonomy
Way-Finding & Entry Experience
- Design the public-facing portal entry experience (“front door”)
- Ensure continuity between public information and authenticated user environments
- Create clear orientation models for different user roles and organizational contexts
UX Standards & Governance
- Define authoritative global UX patterns and interaction contracts
- Establish workflow context presentation standards
- Create reusable design patterns and guidelines for application teams
- Balance flexibility and standardization through principled design decisions
Adoption & Enablement
- Develop onboarding materials and integration guidance for product teams
- Document UX standards and platform expectations
- Support application teams adopting the global experience framework
- Measure adoption and iterate on standards based on real-world usage
What Success Looks Like
- Users can enter the portal and understand where they are and what to do
- Multiple applications feel coherent without feeling identical
- Navigation and orientation patterns remain consistent across applications
- Workflow state is surfaced clearly and predictably
- Application teams adopt global UX patterns without resistance
- The portal experience scales without fragmenting
Who You Are
You are a systems thinker who designs ecosystems, not screens.
You are comfortable operating at the architecture level — defining structure, hierarchy, and interaction models that guide multiple product teams.
You balance strategic clarity with hands-on execution. You can design frameworks, document standards, and prototype interactions while partnering deeply with engineering.
You are self-directed and comfortable owning ambiguity.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of product design experience, including platform or multi-product environments
- Experience designing enterprise portals, platform shells, or cross-application ecosystems
- Strong expertise in information architecture and navigation design
- Experience designing role-based or multi-tenant user experiences
- Experience defining and governing design systems or global UX standards
- Demonstrated ability to influence multiple product teams without direct authority
Highly Valued Experience
- Experience designing experiences that integrate identity and role-based access systems
- Experience working with workflow-driven or stateful systems
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, public sector, financial services)
- Experience building adoption materials or internal enablement frameworks
Core Competencies
- Systems thinking
- Information architecture expertise
- Platform-level UX governance
- Strong written communication
- Facilitation and alignment skills
- Ownership mentality
- Ability to create structure in complex environments
Why This Role Matters
The global experience platform defines how users discover, enter, and move across critical applications. Its coherence determines whether the system scales cleanly or fragments over time.
This is an opportunity to shape a durable, enterprise-level experience foundation that enables long-term usability, adoption, and operational excellence.
