What You’ll Do

As a new professional in R&D, this role will assist in the early phase of design and development of neuro-interventional medical devices. This position will participate in creative brainstorming, conceptualization and realization (prototyping) of new devices with guidance and in conjunction with other more experienced engineers. Responsibilities will include problem solving, hypothesis testing, test method development, design documentation, specification setting, prototyping, testing, data analysis, and report generation in one of the specific engineering focuses mentioned below.

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate new intellectual property, assisting experienced staff and/or attorneys in writing and researching patent claims. 
  • Create detailed specifications, construct prototypes, and test new products or current product enhancements.
  • Support studies and experiments, product testing, and protocols in accordance with project plans. 
  • Research, evaluate, and suggest vendor/contract manufacturer and material choices for designs.
  • Ensure product documentation meet Quality System requirements.
  • Help determine customer needs in product design, user interface, and possible integration of product with other medical systems or products.  
  • Participate in discussions with research physicians to identify potential product or market opportunities.
  • Support user training and contribute to the development of materials required.
  • Assist in design of new products or product enhancements in a cost-effective and timely manner and with an understanding of how the product will be manufactured.
  • May contribute to the process of transferring product from development to manufacturing.
  • Research and provide engineering with testing and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements for approvals of products by the US and foreign regulatory agencies.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related discipline and less than 2 years of professional experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience 
  • Understanding or desire to learn about endovascular or neurovascular techniques and devices.
  • Statistical Analysis Software (Minitab or similar).
  • CAD (Solidworks, ProE, similar).
  • Knowledge of fabrication and operation of machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, drill press, etc.), and 3D printing equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of problem-solving tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to complete projects individually as well as part of a team, after detailed instruction is received.
  • Previous experience in product design from concept to regulatory marketing approval preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulated quality systems such as GMPs, ISO 9001, and the MDD.
  • Familiar with Design Control procedures and requirements.

Salary Range: $86,000 – 96,000 annually
